Data Submission

  1. Ensure data is in GeoJSON format

GeoJSON is the only supported file format for the EU Traces system (and our platform). Most GIS software will allow you to export your files to GeoJSON. But you can also convert some of the more common file types to GeoJSON using this online converter: https://quickmaptools.com [1].

Depending on what data you have, the steps might differ slightly:

KML

This format can be converted into GeoJSON directly

Shapefile

This format cannot be converted into GeoJSON directly. You’ll first need to create a zip file with all the Shapefile components (.shp, .shx, .prj, dbf)

Excel file

Most plot data with single point coordinates are gathered and shared in spreadsheet format. There are two steps to follow before you can visualize and use them for EUDR compliance:

  1. Use a spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets / LibreOffice Calc) to save the file as Comma Separated Value (.csv).

  2. Go to https://quickmaptools.com [1] to convert your CSV to GeoJSON. The prompt will ask you to specify data projection, for which the most common one is "4326 - WGS 84". The next step will show you on the map where the points are located.

    1. If this looks correct, you can convert the file.

    2. If a lot of points end up in the ocean or in countries you don't source from, retry with data projection "3857 - WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator". If that does not solve the problem, reach out to your suppliers or your data collectors for more details on which projection system was used to gather the data.

GeoJSON

Perfect, no need to convert! You're all set when it comes to data format!

2. Check data for errors

Once your data is in the right format, follow the recommended steps below to carry out one last check before the data is uploaded to the Satelligence platform or Traces.

Upload your GeoJSON in geojson.io [1] to visualize it on the map and check if the plots look as expected. In the Table tab on the top right, you can check which data properties (i.e. attributes / columns) are included in the dataset.

📋

For guidance on which data columns are supported in our platform, please refer to the section Supply Chain Manager.

If you made any changes in geojson.io [1] make sure to save your edits by downloading the updated data.

3. Upload & submit data

Log in to the Satelligence platform and navigate to the Supply Chain Manager. Add a supplier, and drag and drop your GeoJSON data (multiple files can be imported at the same time). The Supply Chain Manager will validate the files and check if all the necessary information is present or if there are any remaining issues.

More details on the upload process are specified in the supply chain manager documentation.
